Privacy Policy
Browser Comment Plugin | Last Updated: November 8, 2024
TL;DR: We don't collect, transmit, or share any of your data. Everything stays on your device.
Data Collection
Browser Comment Plugin does not collect, transmit, or share any user data. Period.
What We Store
All data is stored locally in your browser using Chrome's storage API:
- Your comments and annotations on webpages
- Your AI provider preference (OpenAI or Chrome Built-in AI)
- Your OpenAI API key (if provided) - stored in session storage only
This data never leaves your device. We have no servers, no analytics, no tracking.
Third-Party Services
If you choose to use OpenAI as your AI provider:
- You provide your own API key
- Your requests go directly from your browser to OpenAI's API
- We don't see, store, or have access to these requests
- OpenAI's privacy policy applies to those interactions
If you use Chrome Built-in AI:
- Processing happens locally on your device
- No data is sent to external servers
Permissions
We request browser permissions only for core functionality:
- contextMenus: To add right-click menu options for commenting
- storage: To save your comments locally in your browser
- activeTab: To interact with the current webpage you're viewing
- scripting: To display comment UI on pages
- offscreen: To access Chrome's experimental AI features
Your Data Rights
Since all data is stored locally in your browser:
- You can delete all extension data by uninstalling the extension
- You can clear specific comments at any time
- You have complete control over your data
Changes to This Policy
We'll update this page if our privacy practices change. Since we don't collect data, changes will be minimal.
